Left school 1966. Commenced boiler maker welder apprenticeship at MTM Industries Mowbray.(Played football with Hillwood.) Left after about 3 months. Applied for electronics apprenticeship Navy, failed exams. Applied for electronics apprenticeship Army, passed exams, then found out had to be 17 on 1st Jan. was 17 on 9th Dec, 20 odd days too old. Then went and worked with father in family butcher shop for about 2.5 years.
Applied to join Tas Police. commenced on 18/9/69. Junior Constable at Burnie till Jan 1970, then to training school Hobart for 12 weeks. Worked on the beat in Launceston, relieved at West Launceston Stn and Launceston Gaols, Bridport and Georgetown. Transferred to Queenstown 1971, releived at Zeehan and Strahan. (Played football with Gormanston.) Back to Launceston 1972 got married to Barbara. Transferred to Traffic 1973 rode a Triumph Thunderbird, BSA Gold Star, Honda 450 and Honda 750. Divorced 1976.
Married Sherril 1977 adopted her son Tristan who was 4yrs old. Daughter Rachel arrived, then Bradley.
Transferred to Launceston Scientific. OIC There for about 3 yrs, transferred to Scottsdale 1981, General duties and Scientific duties for the division. (Played football with Scottsdale Crows at age 32 got 2 B&F votes in one game).Volunteer member of Tas Fire Service SCOTTSDALE. Played golf. Rode a horse from Eddystone Light House to Ansons bay and return ( about 22k) on a beach search for a girl overboard from a boat.Coached "House of Lords Social Club" tug of war team, for Launceston regatta, won state title.Had many adrenaline rushing experiences.
Transferred to Burnie 1987 promoted to Senior Constable OIC Forensic Services, Western District. Also transferred to Tas Fire Service BURNIE as a volunteer. Tristan eldest played football with Burnie Hawks, I was involved as team manager, water boy, hot dog cooker etc. Tristan left to join Army 1982.I felt like I had lost my right arm. He is currently Adjutant to 1st Field Regiment in Brisbane. Rachel Lives in Melbourne , works in the retail and security industries, Bradley is a Carpenter Joiner at Launceston, and lives with his mother.
Moved to Launceston 1994 Father and mother in law both unwell. Transferred to Launceston Forensic Services. Promoted to Sergeant about 1995 OIC Launceston Forensic.
Went to Port Arthur to assist after shooting.Most difficult situation to try to cope with. Joined St Andrew's Caledonian Pipe Band and began as a learner for side drumming, joined about 30 years too late , have been there about 7 years now. Began attending Newstead Baptist Church,baptised as an adult, found an avenue to assist others in need.
Divorced. Moved to Launceston Church of Christ more avenues to be involved in assisting others, participation in music (choir), creative arts, and practical helps( Many Hands Ministry).
Married Maryann, just celebrated 1st anniversary.Participate as a team couple at Missiondale (drug and alcohol rehab centre Evandale)as Support Worker, Supervision of residents on a voluntary basis.Also Volunteer support worker at Orana Hostel, Newnham ( group home for intellectual disabilities) both through Launceston City Mission,where Maryann is PR officer and PA to the CEO. Able to give something back to society. Life is exciting and very busy.
